Im still here to compete, but theres a 99 per cent chance Ill be retiring at the end of the season. My body felt really good at the end of last year and to be honest, the way the Olympics went it was hard to just hang it up after that. I still felt like I had something to prove. I know I dont, but botttom line is I still enjoy doing it.ddddddddddddKearney and Chloe Dufour-Lapointe were tied atop the womens overall standings 55 points ahead of Justine, whose run of gold in Calgary ended after victories the last two years. My point of view is its my first podium of the year, the 20-year-old said. The skiers expended energy keeping their legs warm between runs as the temperature dipped below minus-20.The weather was cold today so this was a big challenge, Chloe Dufour-Lapointe said. We had a lot of runs and a lot of time where we had to stay warm.A steep drop between the first and second jumps toppled a few skiers and caused others to make mistakes. Kingsbury had a small slip in both runs prior to the six-man super-final, but made the correction in his final pass down the mountain. Its pretty cold here and when you wait on top of the course, my legs werent as warm as in training, he said. Kearneys winning total of 83.76 was actually lower than her qualification mark in the morning of 84.73.Im really pleased with my skiing, but its unusual when youre qualifying score is higher than your super-final score, the American said. That means Ive got some good runs in me.The moguls team heads to Deer Valley, Utah, for moguls and dual moguls World Cups on Friday and Saturday respectively. MIAMI -- Pat Riley walked into the room to begin his end-of-season availability annoyed, and armed with history. There have been franchises that have enjoyed prolonged runs of greatness during his 45 years as a player, coach and executive in the NBA -- the Lakers, Celtics, Bulls, Spurs and his Miami Heat among them -- and Thursday Riley pointed out each shares a trait. They all lost sometime. "I think everybody," the Heat president said moments after smacking the table to begin the news conference, "needs to get a grip." With that, Riley was off and running on a message-sending session that lasted nearly an hour. No players were there, but they surely heard his themes: He saw his teams mental fatigue during the year, but doesnt accept it; he isnt willing to let Miami fall from the ranks of the NBA elite, and the organization will do what it can to keep LeBron James, Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade together. "We have a tremendous opportunity here for long-term success," Riley said. "Dont think were not going to get beat again, so just get a grip, everybody. Thats my message. Its my message to the players, also." It was one of his many messages. Riley, who gets a reported $75,000 when hired to deliver motivational speeches, worked in anecdotes on everything from sipping Johnnie Walker Blue to playing James Ingram records to how even at 69 years old he still finds himself dreaming big. He was speaking with reporters, but clearly talking to players through the cameras. "Youve got to stay together, if youve got the guts," Riley said. "You dont find the first door and run out of it if you have an opportunity. This is four years now into this era, this team. Four finals -- its only been done three other times before -- and two championships. From day one to the end, it was like a Broadway show. It sort of ran out of steam. And we need to retool. We dont need to rebuild." How to retool is the question, but the answer isnt up to Riley yet. James, Bosh and Wade all need to decide if theyre going to opt out of their contracts, a choice that was probably going to be complicated even if the Heat hadnt lost the NBA Finals to San Antonio, ending Miamis two-year reign as league champions. From those decisions, Heat free-agents-to-be -- Ray Allen, Mario Chalmers, Chris Andersen and others -- may start charting their futures. Players from other teams will listen as well. Then Riley and the Heat spring into action on July 1, just as they did four years ago when they netted James, Bosh and Wade. Other than Norris Cole, no Heat player currently is locked into a fully guaranteed deal for next season. But Riley doesnt feel the Heat need to recruit current players again. "Were prepared," Riley said. "Weve got the main-themed book all written up and its dependent on whatever the scenario were presented with on July 1. Weve got a lot of room for flexibility. Theres a tremendous amount of flexibility depending on what happens. So were ready." He offered plenty of perspective on Thursday, about how he still feels like he choked away what should have been a title for the Lakers team he coached in 1984, but how they roared back with three titles in the next four seasons. He even referenced how San Antonio got much better this season after seeing a title in 2013 get taken away by Miami in dramatic fashion. "What happened last year with San Antonio? Did they run? They faced it," Riley said. "They faced it and they came back, and we saw the result. Well find out what were made of here. Its not about options. Its not about free agency. Its not about anything. Its about what we have built over four years here." Among Rileys more impassioned defences was the one of Wade, who was widely criticized for both missing 28 games in the regular season -- mainly part of a maintenance program laid out by the team -- and for struggling in Games 4 and 5 of the NBA Finals. "For the last 10 years, this has been a Dwyane Wade-driven thing," Riley said. "Now does he have to reinvent himself a little bit? Absolutely." Riley can only hope that reinvention is in Miami, and that James and Bosh are there as well. "Im an Irish guy who believes in big dreams," Riley said. "Im optimistic. Until thats proven different, I just have a level of optimism that there isnt a better place for players to be than Miami." Derrick White Jersey . The team locked the free agent Pro Bowl centre into a one-year, $10.039 million contract on Monday by designating him as their transition player. By using the transition tag instead of the franchise tag, Cleveland will have five days to match any offer to Mack made by other teams when free agency opens on March 11. If the Browns had used their franchise tag, Mack would have made $11.654 million next season. In the meantime, the Browns are expected to try and sign Mack to a long-term contract. The 6-foot-4, 311-pounder has been one of Clevelands best and most dependable players since the Browns drafted him in the first round in 2009. He has not missed one offensive play in five years, a run of 4,998 consecutive snaps. Mack may want to play elsewhere. He could draw serious interest as a free agent and he may be dismayedd with the teams direction following another coaching change and front-office purge this winter.dddddddddddd The Browns have gone just 23-57 since Mack arrived. The decision to make Mack their transition player also means Pro Bowl safety T.J. Ward is now a free agent. Ward had a solid 2013 season. He started all 16 games and made a career-high 129 tackles with two interceptions, returning one for a touchdown. With Ward seemingly no longer in their plans, the Browns could pursue Buffalo free safety Jairus Byrd, who was not tagged by the Bills. A three-time Pro Bowler, Byrd could be reunited in Cleveland with new Browns coach Mike Pettine, who spent last season as Buffalos defensive co-ordinator. Byrd turned down a multiyear offer from the Bills. He played under a one-year, $6.9 million franchise tag last year. The Browns have over $55 million in salary-cap room. ' ' '

LAS VEGAS, Nev. - Webb Simpson was far from comfortable with a four-stroke lead at TPC Summerlin. "This is a golf course where guys can shoot, as weve seen this week, 8, 9, 10, 11 under," Simpson said. "So, I have to go out with a mindset of attacking and trying to make birdies." Simpson maintained his four-shot advantage Saturday in the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open, birdieing four of the last seven holes for a 4-under 67. "I think the key tomorrow is to, No. 1, stay patient again in case I do get off to another slow start," said Simpson, who missed a playoff — that Jonathan Byrd won with a hole-in-one on the fourth extra hole — by a stroke in 2010 after making a double bogey on the par-3 17th. Making his first start since helping the U.S. win the Presidents Cup, the 2012 U.S. Open champion was 19 under overall. He opened with rounds of 64 and 63. "The conditions were perfect," Simpson said. "I knew guys were shooting low numbers. I felt like I was playing good enough. I just was shooting pretty bad — parred 9, dropped the shot at 11. So, it was frustrating. But my caddie just told me to stay patient and let the birdies come. And thats what happened. I made some putts coming in." Chesson Hadley was second after a 67, birdieing the short par-4 15th and following with a hole-out for an eagle on the par-5 16th. "They waved us up on 15 and I just roasted a driver up there," Hadley said. "I think it hit perfectly into the hill and dribbled up there to about 10 feet. I hit a good putt. It was just a little to the left, so it was a nice tap-in birdie. So that was good. "Then I drove it right on 16, and I laid up to the perfect number. And my first thought when I hit it was, Please go a little. Then I saw it take the first bounce and it looked like it just one hopped right in the bottom of the stick. That was huge." The Web.com Tour Championship winner last month, Hadley is making his fourth career PGA Tour start. He and Simpson are both from Raleigh, N.C. "Webb and I grew up playing together," Hadley said. "Hes always been more successful earlier than I have been. And you know, hes been such a good role model and just influence for the game as far as his faith is concerned. Im just looking forward to playing with him tomorrow." Jeff Overton was third at 14 under after a 68. Jason Bohn had a 69 to reach 13 under, and Sean OHair shot a 63 to join first-round leader J.J. Henry, defending champion Ryan Moore, William McGirt, Ryo Ishikawa and Russell Knox at 12 under. OHair eagled the 15th. "Ive been playing some nice golf, and it was nice to come out today and get started off quick," OHair said. "I was 3 under pretty quickly and turned at 4, and kind of started off slow on the back nine, but that eagle helped on 15. So, it was just all in all a great day." OHair had to play the four-event Web.com Tour Finals to regain his PGA Tour card. "I think it was a tough time this year for me, especially late because I was realizing I was going to lose my card," OHair said. "I just had to get my mind right going into those Web.com events. I knew I had an opportunity to get my card back, but I had to be in a right spot mentality. It was a disappointing time for me. "I was able to get my mind right, and I played fairly well. ... I really feel good about my game right now, everything about it, from putting, ball-striking. I really feel like I can play some great golf right now. I think it helped me to kind of go back to basics and simplify my game." Henry has shot 71-70 after opening with a course-record 60. McGirt shot 64, Ishikawa had a 68, and Moore and Knox shot 69. Daniel Summerhays had a 68 to reach 11 under. He eagled the par-5 13th and 16th holes. Jimmy Walker, the winner of the season-opening Frys.com Open last week in California, was 10 under after a 64. Many a hockey path has been carved out through hard work, perseverance and beating some odds. That statement rings true when describing Derek Dorsett, a Columbus Blue Jackets seventh-round draft pick in 2006, but his story is one that goes much deeper than a small man playing big. The teenager from Kindersley, Saskatchewan wanted to play hockey - Triple A hockey. If fact, he wanted to play AAA so badly that he tried out for every team available. It was not easy to take no for an answer and he wasnt about to, but the door did not open swiftly into what many consider the stepping stone required to be recognized for the CHL or the NCAA and, eventually, the NHL. “Id be lying to ya if I didnt say that there was a time where I was done....Id had enough, Dorsett said. I travelled to eight or nine midget AAA teams (there were only 12 teams in that league) and then I went back to the SJ (Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League) camp...there were two midget AAA camps after it.” Dorsett would not make the SJHL team, either, but not due to lack of hard work. Rather, injury this time would add to the insult. “I broke my hand in the SJHL camp, but I didnt tell anyone and my hand was puffed up pretty big, Dorsett explained. I went to North Battleford (AAA) and I thought Id have a chance to make it, so I didnt say anything, but I ended up getting cut. Then, I had a cast on for 6 weeks after that.” Many a player, never mind many a young man, would have folded tent and packed it in. Even though his true stripes were that of a tiger (bulldog might be a better description, but I have yet to meet a striped one) he still relied on something other than inner fire - his family. “My dad kept me going through that year and thats one of the best things that ever happened to me, said Doresett. Dorsett deserved a chance, but would one arrive? After all of those training camps, many rosters were set and the “outside looking in” line certainly applied to an undersized forward with a broken hand. Unwavering was his determination and the second break would be a good one. His chance would arrive. “I wanted to play so bad, Dorsett said. Obviously, I was in a lot of pain, but I didnt want to tell anyone because I thought it would ruin my chances. I tried out for almost every AAA team in Saskatchewan and I was cut by every one and then Swift Current [Legionnaires] took a chance on me. They thought Id probably be a third or fourth liner, maybe a guy that didnt play every night. I ended up coming out of the gates pretty hot and carried it through the season.” This would be a huge turning point in the development of young Dorsett. Not only did he improve strength-wise, along with his overall game, but people finally took notice that the traits that made him stand out could prove to be quite valuable on their hockey team. Interest developed from Junior A teams in the area and stretched as far as BC. In perhaps a twist of fate, the opportunity that put him firmly on the map arrived in his own backyard: Kindersley. The local Klippers added him to their roster for the post-season drive. Dorsett would get into playoff games and ended up as part of a crew that would go all the way to the Royal Bank Cup Finals in Grand Prairie. “During that tournament I was listed by Red Deer (WHL) and was also drafted by the Green Bay Gamblers (USHL), so I had a few options that I could take,” said Dorsett. Options. Go figure. Options for a player who had zero when trying to crack provincial AAA at the start of the year. Yet, it was not an automatic or a jump at first interest for a prairie boy with dreams of playing in the WHL. Instead, we learn another side of Dorsett – the calculated side. “I went to training camp in Red Deer, he explained. I didnt want to burn my [NCAA eligibility] by playing just one exhibition game, so when they wouldnt sign me to anything before an exhibition game, I decided to go back to Kindersley.” The decision likely shocked many. An opportunity to play in the “Dub” evades many great players across Western Canada, never mind a largely unappreciated and oft-overlooked Dorsett. Although others may have pondered how he could turn it down, Dorsett did what he felt was right and hit the highway back home to rejoin the Klippers. Cue Willie Desjardins and the Medicine Hat Tigers. “I think it was Mike Moore and Bob Green, they kind of found me, Dorsett remembered. I think it was about 20-25 games [into the Kindersley season], if I remember right, that Medicine Hat came and listed me. Two days later they picked me up on the bus headed East to Saskatoon and the rest is history! Willie gave me a good chance.” First impressions are often lasting and this one is too good to pass up. As it turns out, the lasting impression is the story around those first moments as a Tiger, stepping on the bus and how Dorsett would prove again he is far more than what many bargain for. “I think Willie was a little surprised when I got on the bus...they told him he was getting this power forward - a guy that has 189 PIM in 25 games in the SJ and 20 points - a guy that is relentless, he said. Then I walked onto the bus and I think I weighed 170 pounds..” The story goes that Desjardins was bringing his players up to speed as to who they were picking up and, when Dorsett walked on the bus, someone leaned over and said, Coach, I think we got his little brother!” “I think he was a little shocked at the start, said Dorsett of his once and current coach. I walked onto the bus and Willie was like, Oh, I thought we were getting a tough fighter. Dorsett would go on to challenge for both the team and league lead in penalty minutes each full season he played with the Tigers. He finished his WHL career with 593 PIM in 180 games played, while putting up 16 goals and 48 assist-campaigns. He would step up in the postseason, being named playoff MVP in 2005-06 and helped the Tigers win the 2007 WHL Championship, en route to a berth in the Memorial Cup. “It all worked out in the end and Ive got some real fond memories from my time there,” said Dorsett. Only 24 players were selected after Dorsett in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft, but he had made it. He had achieved his goal and overcame a ton along the way. Kindersleys native son would be on his way to NHL training camp with the Blue Jackets, but that wasnt good enough for Dorsett and his story doesnt stop there. Not many at 511 and 176 lbs make it through the WHL and into the NHL. Even fewer stick in pro hockey, as Dorsett did, plying his trade in the AHL. The following year, he would go on to lead the Syracuse Crunch in penalty minutes and all AHL rookies in PIM with 289, while picking up 18 points. What Dorsett would have given to play a single NHL game years ago, one can only imagine, but through proving people wrong time and time again, his one NHL game turned into one game away from the Stanley Cup. The New York Rangers were looking for grit to help them in the postseason and Dorsett was acquired from the Blue Jackets for that reason. The problem, however, was that he was not even expected to play in the post season. Once again, the bulldog showed his fight and he returned from a collarbone break that had placed him on the sidelines for almost the entire regular season. Number 51 would, in fact, dress in Broadway blue for the playoffs. While the Rangers would not go all the way that year, the best was yet to come from Dorsett. The small town kid from Kindersley would end up a big part of the Stanley Cup run, which is not terribly surprising considering hockey played at that time of the year, caters itself to hard work, physicality, grit and guts. New York ended up three wins short from the ultimate prize. “I think anytime you have success and you keep winning playoff series, you think, this might be my turn - this could be it...the chance to win, in my opinion, the best trophy in all of sports, said Dorsett. It is still a huge achievement, but dont tell that to any player who has fallen just short, especially one with the make up of Dorsett. “I definitely had some conversations with family and friends about the experience and how cool it was, but it was hard to think about it over the summer because of how close we were, said Dorsett. The Rangers did not prove to be the ultimate fit, despite trying to return to the dance and it was Dorsett, who would end up with a change in venue, but with a familiar conductor. Cue Willie Desjardins and the Vancouver Canucks. The head coach and everyone else in the hockey world now nows firmly what to expect from Dorsett. For those Canucks fans who didnt, it was quickly realized. There is a good chance hell return to the numbers he has become infamous for sporting, those 100+-PIM and 20+-points-types of seasons. Dorsett, though, has one thought on his mind - one which arrives with the agony of defeat, combined with the attitude of a winner. “It was a special time and it just makes me hungrier to get back there and actually come out on top, he said. Canucks fans hope so. They too, have fought through ups and downs and have come out battle tested. Perhaps, there is no better player, then, to represent what not only the roster, but the city hopes to achieve: The determined Derek Dorsett Buy Yeezy 350 V2 Online . Theyve been looking at him for a while, hes got a century this season and hes a player whos improving all the time - a good pick. Then theres Jake Ball. I watched a championship game down at Lords, Middlesex versus Nottinghamshire and he bowled really well there, even though he didnt get any wickets when I watched him. But another lad who caught the eye was Toby Roland-Jones, he had a good solid action - very, very similar to Jake Ball and both of them bowl with good discipline. Toby Roland-Jones impressed Bumble at Lords As for the series as a whole, I would think that England are deserved favourites. Youve always got to factor in the weather and delays in the game but Id expect England to win this series comfortably and to win the Pakistan series comfortably too. That means they can get to work moving up the ICC Test rankings, theyre fourth and by the end of this Id expect them to have made a big move forward. This week also sees Mark Butchers documentary England in the 90s go to air and things have certainly changed since then. Wed had enough of playing catch up and central contracts were a vital part of the England Test team moving forward. Theyre now England players, I think everybody has accepted that now. It was difficult at the start, certainly in the 90s, David Graveney, the chairman of selectors, almost had to go cap in hand to the counties and ask if they could rest a player. Understandably, the counties said well were employing him but thats changed now and the England contracted players are exactly that.It wasnt the most successful decade for England but we were up against some wonderful opposition. We had a good side, make no mistake about it. In the late 90s England were a very good side but we were up against some world class performers. Shane Warne was part of a formidable Australian side in the 90s You look at the Australia team who were carrying all before them at that time with McGrath, Gillespie, Fleming, Warne - they had a wonderful attack. Then you had Pakistan with Waqar and Wasim, South Africa with Donald and Pollock, youve Ambrose and Walsh at the West Indies, there were some fabulous teams around. We had a really good team and sometimes wed come out on top, we had some good wins and we probably had some predictable losses. The disappointing loss would be losing in the West Indies 3-1 when I thought we were a better team than that performance, I thought we should have won that series - I was a bit disappointed at that.We did beat South Africa 2-1 in a five-match series, we hadnt played a five-match series for a long, long time and so to win that was a real highlight. We also manoeuvred away from the idea that Test team plays one-day cricket, we were trying hard to establish a one-day squad, a specialist one-day team. Back to the present day and Ive seen a couple of matches and Ive been really impressed by the cricket that Ive seen in County Championship Division One. There are some wonderful players, some really good teams, some potent bowling attacks and youve got to play really well now in Division One.Lancashire have had an excellent start with a good attack. Every team would say we need a good attack - well youve got Anderson leading the attack, Wagner, Jarvis and Kerrigan - thats a damn good attack. The top two teams are Lancashire and Yorkshire and theyve both got really good bowling units.Warwickshire will be round about too, I think theyre an excellent team and if I was making a favourite then Warwickshire would be my favourites. James Anderson has led the Lancashire attack so far this season Accrington Stanley have their first play-off match this weekend but Im still profoundly disappointed with the Stevenage result, we just couldnt get that ball in the back of the net - we just kept hitting the bar! We were all over them like a bad suit but we couldnt score and it was heart-breaking for the lads.John Coleman and Jimmy Bell will work hard to lift the players again and whats gone is gone, thats it. Our next game is Wimbledon on Saturday so we go again. We know what is expected of us as a team, we dont lie down and we will come again. Sky Sports won a BAFTA for the coverage of the 2015 Ashes series Elsewhere, we won a BAFTA last Sunday which was fabulous - mixing it with the stars! Walking up the red carpet, waving to people and they hadnt a clue who I was and rubbing shoulders with Lenny Henry, Mark Rylance, Peter Kay, Alesha Dixon. Visiting the defensively challenged Dallas Stars on Thursday night gives Winnipeg an ample opportunity to continue that surge. The Jets look to score at least four goals in regulation in four straight games for the first time since their inaugural season in Winnipeg following the franchises relocation from Atlanta. Viewers in the Jets region can watch the game on TSN3 at 7pm ct or follow the action on TSN Radio Winnipeg 1290 starting at 6pm ct. Winnipeg (22-14-8) has earned a point in three consecutive games. It won 5-4 in a shootout at Los Angeles on Saturday and lost by the same score in a shootout at Anaheim the next day before returning home to face Florida on Tuesday. Perreault scored a career-high four goals as the Jets rolled to an 8-2 victory. Theyve scored at least four times in regulation for three straight games for the first time since April 6-11, 2013, and havent accomplished that feat in four in a row since Feb. 17-23, 2012. Perreault tied the franchise record for goals in a game, giving him 15 to go along with 10 assists in his last 24. He went without a goal in his first 19 games while registering just three assists. Its something very special, Perreault, three goals shy of matching his career high set last season with the Ducks, told Winnipegs official website. Obviously the bounces were going my way. It was one of those nights – a lot of fun. ... Slow start (to the season), but things are going well and I couldnt be happier. All-Star defenseman Dustin Byfuglien added two goals annd an assist after recording three assists in the two games in California.dddddddddddd Its a big win, Byfuglien said. It doesnt matter if youre on the road or at home. When its time to come to the rink and put on our gear, weve got to come together. We did that tonight. The Jets came together in the first meeting with Dallas (19-16-7) this season, scoring all of their goals in the first two periods of a 5-2 road win Dec. 9. Perreault had a goal and Byfuglien recorded two assists. Winnipeg has scored 17 times as these clubs have split the last four meetings, and the Stars enter this one as one of the worst defensive teams in the NHL with 3.29 goals allowed per game. Dallas has allowed at least four goals four times in the last five games but managed to score enough to beat visiting Ottawa 5-4 and snap an 0-2-2 slide Tuesday. Despite the high goal total, Tyler Seguin failed to register one for the ninth time in 10 games while Jamie Benn didnt score for the eighth time in that span. Seguin, tied for the NHL lead with 26 goals, and Benn, second on the team with 12, didnt skate on the same line at Wednesdays practice. I wanted to look at just maybe a little switch, little different scenery for Tyler and Jamie, coach Lindy Ruff told the teams official website. Sometimes for a period maybe, well take a look at it. Sometimes that helps a guy. Ales Hemsky has been a bright spot for Dallas with three goals in four games and five in the last eight. He didnt score in his first 21 contests. Im more comfortable, Hemsky said. ... I think Ive shot the puck more than I used to. Its simple; you build confidence, and you go from there. ' ' '

PHOENIX -- The Arizona Diamondbacks have placed outfielder Cody Ross on the 15-day disabled list with a dislocated right hip and recalled pitchers Chaz Roe and Tyler Skaggs from Triple-A Reno. He stumbled just before reaching the bag and was taken to the hospital after being carted off the field. The Diamondbacks said Ross will have surgery on Tuesday to repair a small fracture in his hip. AUBURN HILLS, Mich. -- Dwight Howard vs. Andre Drummond was a mismatch from the start -- so it didnt really matter how many key players were missing for the Houston Rockets. Howard had 35 points and 19 rebounds, leading the short-handed Rockets to a 114-97 victory over the Detroit Pistons on Saturday night. Howard dominated Drummond, Detroits promising 20-year-old big man, and helped Houston control the game despite the absence of star guard James Harden, who was out with a sprained right ankle. "I love Andre -- the way hes been playing this year," Howard said. "Hes 20 years old, and he doesnt back down from any challenge, and I love that about him. Hes going to continue to get better." But Drummond looked overmatched against Howard, who ended up with his highest-scoring game since joining the Rockets in the off-season. Howard went 13 of 18 from the field, while Drummond managed only nine points at the other end. "At the end I thanked him for the lesson," Drummond said. "He said, Any time." The Rockets also were without Jeremy Lin, who has been bothered by back spasms, and they lost guard Patrick Beverley to a fractured right hand. Josh Smith scored 19 points for the Pistons. Detroit blew a 20-point lead and allowed 72 points in the second half of Fridays loss to Charlotte. The Pistons again struggled defensively against Houston, especially against Howard. "Dwight was unbelievable tonight. He completely dominated the game," Houstons Chandler Parsons said. "Im a big fan of Andre Drummond. I think hes got a lot of potential, and hes a really good player, but I mean, Dwight just dominated tonight." Howard scored 23 points and grabbed 12 rebounds in the first half. Houston led 61-53 at the half and 86-71 after three quarters. Drummonds tip-in made it 92-82, but Howard responded by simply backing Drummond down again for two more points. Francisco Garcias 3-pointer put the Rockets up 97-84. The Pistons shot 1 of 12 from 3-point range, and they also missed a number of shots inside from point-blank range. Houston lost Friday at Indiana in a 114-81 rout, but the Rockets overcame all their injury problems against Detroit. "We just have to go out there and play," Rockets coach Kevin McHale said. "It does not matter how many guys we have. It does not matter who is playing or who is not playing. We just have to go there and play together and play with some toughness. Toughness and togetherness overcomes a lot of stuff." Parsons scored 20 points on 9-of-15 shooting for Houston, and Garcia added 16 points starting in place of Harden. Omri Casspi and Aaron Brooks had seven assists each off the bench. "I thought Aaron had a good game tonight," McHale said. "I thought Patrick really started off well. We are not going to have Patrick for a while, which means that Jeremy is due to come back." Brandon Jennings had eight points and 10 assists for Detroit before being ejected with 2:10 to go. After a foul call, a clearly frustrated Jennings tossed the ball away for one technical foul, then earned another for arguing. "We are still trying to get better, night in and night out," Pistons coach Maurice Cheeks said. "As I said to our players, there will be some nights when we will have good nights, there will be some nights when we have bad nights. Last night and tonight was not our best for sure." NOTES: Detroit was averaging an NBA-best 51.5 points in the paint coming into the game, while Houston was third at 49.2. The teams finished tied at 62 in that department Saturday. ... The Rockets have enjoyed an easy schedule thus far in the 2014-15 campaign with road wins over the Los Angeles Lakers and Utah Jazz, then a home victory over the Boston Celtics on Saturday. Those three teams own a combined 3-7 record. The Sixers are winless early in the season, and they can become the Eastern Conferences first 0-4 squad. The Lakers own that ugly record out west. Against the Celtics, Houston built a 14-4 cushion in the first quarter and never looked back. They posted a wire-to-wire, 104-90 victory. All three of Houstons wins this season have seen the team go over the 100- point plateau. The Rockets rank seventh in the league in scoring and their plus-43 scoring margin over opponents is the highest through the first three games in franchise history since the 1993-94 team was a plus-45. That squad, led by Hakeem Olajuwon, won the NBA title that season. James Harden filled the stat sheet with 26 points, eight rebounds, six assists and four steals versus the Cs. Tony Wroten had 21 points and 10 assists for the Sixers to lead the way. Brandon Davies netted a career-high 18 points and Hollis Thompson added 10 in the setback. The Sixers shot an admirable 52.2 percent, but went ice cold in the fourth quarter. Philadelphia was limited to 4-of-15 shooting from the field and 0- for-5 from beyond the arc over the final 12 minutes. That performance came one night after failing to score a single point over the final 8:21 in a loss to the Milwaukee Bucks. We were good for three periods, said Sixers coach Brett Brown. We didnt roll over. Ive seen fantastic signs in our first three games. The NBA, players are so good. Its unforgiving. NEW YORK -- After a demoralizing start to the season where nothing seemed to go their way, the New York Mets are making all the right calls. Pinch-hitter Ike Davis hit a walkoff grand slam one batter after manager Terry Collins won his first replay challenge, and the Mets rallied to beat the Cincinnati Reds 6-3 Saturday. "That was tremendous ending especially for Ike going thru what hes going through," Collins said. "To come in in a big situation and come through, thats great stuff." Brandon Phillips gave the Reds a 3-2 lead with a two-run homer off Dillon Gee in the eighth, two innings after Curtis Granderson connected for a two-run drive off Johnny Cueto, his first homer with the Mets. Trailing by a run in the ninth, Juan Lagares walked leading off against fill-in closer J.J. Hoover. Anthony Recker got a bunt down on a ball that was above his eyes, and first baseman Joey Votto threw to shortstop Zack Cozart covering second. Second base umpire James Hoye called Lagares out. Running down the first base line, Recker knew the Mets had an opportunity. "As soon as he called him out I was thinking to myself how we should challenge it," Recker said. So was Collins. After a review of 2 minutes, 14 seconds, the call was overturned by crew chief John Hirschbeck. "Youve got to go out," Collins said. "Took a chance. But youve got to. Its just a close play anyway. Weve got that opportunity to challenge that, so I had to take a shot at it." Reds first-year manager Bryan Price agreed with the call. "They got it right and as frustrating as it was, we anticipated we were going to get the switch," Price said. Hoover (1-1), pitching the ninth for Aroldis Chapman who is out after being hit in the face by a line drive during spring training, then walked Ruben Tejada to load the bases. "That leadoff walk, didnt give myself any chance really," Hoover said. Davis lost his starting first base job to Lucas Duda a day earlier, but was called on to hit in the pitchers spot and lined a 0-1 curveball off the facing of the right field porch, setting off a gleeful celebration at Citi Field that included a whipped cream pie in Davis face. Collins said Davis will start Sunday against Alfredo Simon, a decision made before the game. "As long as Duda keeps hitting thats going to be my role," Davis said. Duda hit two homers Friday night in the Mets 4-3 win over the Reds. The Mets won their second straight after being swept by Washington in three games to open the season. Cincinnati dropped to 1-4 for the first time since 2003, when it finished 69-93. The Mets beleaguered bullpen came through, too. Scott Rice got two outs and Carlos Torres (1-0) worked a scoreless ninth to give the Mets a chance. In a blustery wind with gusts up to 35 mph that sent papers swirling around Citi Field, Cueto and Gee were dominant early against two of the leagues worst hitting teams thus far. Cueto didnt allow a hit until Tejada doubled with one out in the fifth inning and Gee was perfect until Tucker Barnhart, subbing for injured catcher Devin Mesoraco (oblique strain), lined his first big league hit to right field with one out in the third. Cueto gave up five hits and two runs, lifting any lingering worry about his health after he made only 11 starts last season. He struck out nine and walked three -- one intentionally. Gee allowed six hits and a walk. He struck out four. NOTES: Reds CF Billy Hamilton was scratched from the lineup because of a jammed left middle finger. Deonte Burton Jersey .Y. -- Scott Chandler is returning to Buffalo, where he spent the past three seasons establishing himself as the Bills top pass-catching tight end. Dale Ellis Jersey .com) - Stephen Currys jumper with 3.HOUSTON -- C.J. Wilson had a simple plan for his second start after a dud in his season debut. "Just told myself Im going to pick my spot and stay with my spot and not try to overdo it," Wilson said. It was an effective approach, allowing him to pitch eight solid innings while Howie Kendrick and Raul Ibanez each drove in three runs to send the Los Angeles Angels over the Houston Astros 9-1 Monday. The Angels took three of four from Houston after starting the season 0-3. Wilson (1-1) yielded four hits and a run while fanning seven. He looked a lot more like the 17-game winner he was last year than he did in his first start this season when he gave up eight hits and six runs in 5 2-3 innings of a loss to Seattle. In that game, he said, all the hits in that game came when "I basically overthrew or did something mechanically wrong." He didnt have that problem Monday. "I was able to throw curveballs for strikes and changeups for strikes, which was big," Wilson said. "I only threw a couple sliders because I didnt really need to." Houston struggled to get anything going off of him. Jesus Guzman doubled with one out in the second before Wilson retired nine in a row. A double by Chris Carter came with one out in the fifth inning, and Wilson sat down 10 straight after that. The Astros finally got on the board when Carlos Corporan launched a 76 mph curveball into the Crawford Boxes in left field for a home run that made it 8-1. "First-pitch strikes were huge for him and when he did get behind in the count he was able to command some off-speed pitches to get back into the count," manager Mike Scioscia said. "He couldnt have really done a much better job than he did." Though he didnt need his slider to keep the Astros off-balance, he did pull out a seldom-used pitch once to try and handle Guzman. "His third at-bat I threw him a knuckleball because I literally had no idea what to throw him," Wilson said. Kendrick drove in two with a single in a three-run first inning. He added an RBI with a single when the Angels tacked on three more in the seventh. Kole&nnbsp;Calhoun homered off Jarred Cosart (1-1), sending a drive to right field for his second shot of the series to push the lead to 4-0 in the fifth inning.dddddddddddd Cosart was done in by a bad first inning where he had to use 32 pitches. He was pulled after allowing three hits, five runs and walking four in six innings. It was a disappointing second start for the 23-year-old who threw five scoreless frames for the win in his 2014 debut against the Yankees. "I spotted them three runs and with a lineup like that and with a team like that you cant do that," he said. "Its hard for our team to play from behind obviously. I kind of had us back on our heels." A pair of walks and a fielders choice loaded the bases with one out in the first inning for Cosart. A broken-bat groundout by Ibanez sent one home to make it 1-0. Carter had to navigate around the flying piece of bat that stuck in the dirt right near where he fielded the ball. Kendricks single to shallow right field pushed the lead to 3-0 in the first. Cosart settled down after the first, pitching a perfect second before walking two in a scoreless third and retiring the side in the fourth. Stewart hit a triple with one out in the sixth and scored on a sacrifice fly by Chris Iannetta that made it 5-0. Ibanez drove home two with a single to right field off reliever Brad Peacock in the seventh. NOTES: Houston CF Dexter Fowler was out of the lineup for the fourth straight game because of a stomach virus. Fowler, who spent Friday night at Methodist Hospital and was released Saturday, returned to the ballpark on Monday. He said he was feeling better but was still very weak. The already slim Fowler said he knows he has lost some weight but hadnt stepped on the scale because he didnt want to know how much hed dropped. Seattle Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch expects to see his driving under the influence trial in California come to an end on Friday when he pleads guilty a lesser charge of reckless driving. Lynchs attorney, Ivan Golde, told The Associated Press on Thursday of the plea deal that was reached with the Alameda County District Attorney Office. The plea will be formally entered in court in Oakland, Calif., on Friday. ESPN first reported the plea agreement. Lynch was arrested in July 2012 on investigation of driving under the influence after he was pulled over on a freeway in Oakland. Golde says he believes that Lynch had a strong enough case to win at trial, but said the Seattle running back did not want a public trial considering his high profile with the Seahawks coming off a Super Bowl victory. Golde said Lynch will plead guilty to a "wet reckless." Lynch will have to take six driving safety classes and pay a $1,080 fine. Air Max 270 React Grise Pas Cher . ST. LOUIS -- Pinch-hitter Greg Garcia was just looking for some way to reach base in the 12th inning Tuesday night. He did it the hard way, getting hit by a pitch from Justin Grimm with one out and the bases loaded to force in the winning run in the St. Louis Cardinals 4-3 win over the Chicago Cubs. "I knew Grimm threw hard," Garcia said. "I just tried to put the ball in play anyway I can." Jhonny Peralta led off the 12th with a single for his third hit. Grimm (1-2) retired Matt Holliday on a popup, but walks to Allen Craig and Yadier Molina loaded the bases for Garcia. Garcia had a 1-2 count when he was plunked by Grimm. "I saw the pitch out of his hand and knew it was in," Garcia said. "When it got close to the plate I saw it had a chance to hit me. Ill take that one 100 per cent of the time." Seth Maness (1-2) tossed a scoreless 12th for the win. Both teams used seven pitchers. St. Louis manager Mike Matheny said he had not planned to use Maness, who had pitched the last three games. "We were planning on staying away from him if possible, but it turned out we needed him," Matheny said. Trailing 3-2 going into the ninth, Chicago rallied to tie it off closer Trevor Rosenthal on Emilio Bonifacios RBI single with two outs. The blown save was the first for Rosenthal in 11 opportunities. "Thats tough, and you could feel it," Matheny said. "But they just put their head down and kept playing. That would have been a tough one to lose." Matt Adams and Matt Carpenter also drove in runs for the Cardinals. Luis Valbuena hit a two-run homer off Cardinals starter Adam Wainwright as part of a three-hit night. "The guys ended up fighting, doing the best they could," Cubs manager Rick Renteria said. "We just fell a little short." The Cardinals took a 3-2 lead in the sixth after Peter Bourjos led off with a bunt single against Carlos Villanueva. Bourjos went to second on a grounder, stole third on ball four pitch to pinch-hitter Jon Jay and scored on Carpenters grounder. Peralta added an RBI single. Cubs starter Jake Arrieta went four innings, allowing one run on four hits and five walks. But he helped himself when he led off the third with a single and scored on Valbuenas homer. St. Louis got one of those runs back in the bottom of the third on a two-out, RBI infield single by Adams. NOTES: The Cubs are 3-15 in games decided by two runs or less. ... Carpenter went 0 for 5 and is hitless in his last 13 at-bats. ... Seven games to go. Seven games to fight for their playoff lives. Nothing has come easy for Toronto FC, nor should it have been expected from the beginning. The only thing big money, flashy moves guarantees are a more expensive payroll. And theres nothing worse or more damning than expensive mistakes. Its time for Toronto FC to produce. Crunchtime has arrived. There is no doubt about it. And what better way to kick-off a crucial run of matches than by welcoming a wounded, lifeless opponent to BMO Field. Toronto FC (9-11-7), winless in their last six, begin a season-defining run of games against one of the worst teams in Major League Soccer, Chivas USA (6-16-6), in a bizarre Sunday 3pm kick-off. Sitting three points back of a playoff spot, seventh place in the Eastern Conference is hardly ideal. A game in hand on the competition and a soft opponent ahead makes the forecast much brighter than the dark clouds many are casting. A first managerial victory for head coach Greg Vanney is a virtual must. Anything short of three points this weekend would suggest turbulent times ahead. Simply playing out the stretch was never in the script nor should it be. Make no bone about it, Sunday is make or break for Toronto FC. Here are five thoughts ahead of this weekends match-up. 1) Central Issues – A common denominator determining team success on the season has been superior midfield play that has created positive team results. When the middle of the park has played well, the team has picked up results. When it has struggled, the team has come apart at the seams. Superior cohesion and tactical direction is essential and Vanney has to get it right Sunday. Collen Warner has been ruled out (hamstring) which means a different look. Playing Michael Bradley alongside a player who can compliment his skill-set is paramount. With Bradley showing preference to drop back and facilitate from a deeper position (which is a necessity), Warner hasnt been the best match, preferring to play a similar role. A midfield diamond seems best for this group, with Bradley taking up a holding position. Jonathan Osorio (hamstring) returning from injury is an ideal partner, playing in an advanced role. The Canadian International has struggled with consistency playing outside left. Hes an inside player. All of his traits dictate as such. Paired with a stable Bradley, TFC would have two players in the middle comfortable on the ball with requisite athleticism. Balance would be achieved. The wing players then can play narrower, opening up space down the wings for the outside-backs to get forward, as Vanney prefers. This is the best shape for the team. Will Vanney and his newly named coaching staff make this prudent tactical change? 2) Welcome Back! – Osorio isnt the only player set to return. Captain Steven Caldwell (quad) is in contention after battling a long-standing injury. The defensive line struggled without the centre-halfs communication, experience and overall superior standard of play. Established defensive help wasnt addressed before the MLS roster freeze, making Caldwells inclusion that much more important. A healthy Caldwell drastically improves the backline, and perhaps opens up the possibility for Doneil Henry to take up a wing-back position. It may not be ideal, but Henry played right-back for Canada earlier in the month and played well. For what he lacked going forward, Henry added a more solid defensive presence on the right side of the pitch. If youre going to play Oduro or another attack-minded player on the right wing, you better be sure you are secure defensively. TFC has been exposed on the wing far too easily. Henry would stabilize the position. While Caldwell represents stability, Jermain Defoe signifies the return of cutting edge that has been sorely lacking. Many believed it wouldnt happen, but Defoe will return to Toronto on Monday. According to Defoe, his rehab has gone well, but that doesnt mean hes close to match fitness. Two weeks from now in Los Angeles has been set as Defoes likely return date. If so, Toronto FC will have five games of Defoe to help save the season. The striker leads the team with 11 goals in 16 games, having only played twice in the last 60 days. General manager Tim Bezbatchenko elected not to sell Defoe at the transfer deadline in hopes he could be influential down the stretch. Were about to find out whether it was worth the risk. 3) "I feel for Toronto FC" – It rarely happens in any sport: a league official admitting a referee got it wrong. MLS commissioner Don Garber did just that in a respectable move Thursday. Toronto FC was robbed of the full three points in Chicago on the weekend as match official David Gantar called back Gilbertos potential winner in time added on. The match ended 1-1 and crucial points were stolen. Gantar spoiled the occasion. An improper call as such is intolerable at this level. Instead of backing the official, as per usual, Garber acknowledged the wrongdoing, saying "That referee did not get it right in that game, and we shouldnt be ashamed of saying that." Refreshing stuff from Garber. Michael Bradley had a go at MLS officiating in an honest and emotional post-match rant. Its surprising the league hasnt taken any action (yet) against Bradley. If the league wants to continue doing the right thing, they will let Bradley off with a private warning. Extending the olive branch, developing goodwill with the club and one of the leagues top players can go a long way to coming to common understanding, taking progressive steps to rectifying the wrongs. I respect Bradley for coming to the defence of his team. He understood the possible repercussions and was willing to risk potential punishment, speaking on behalf of the group. Thats how you reinforce leadership and command respect within the room. 4) Ref-Factor – The disallowed goal in Chicago Saturday isnt the only controversial decision made against Toronto FC this season, leading to points dropped. May 2 – Tied 1-1 in the 82nd minute, referee makes New England retake a corner kick Toronto FC had already cleared away. It was a decision that then-head coach Ryan Nelsen claimed, "Ive never seen it before." The decision was baffling. Toronto conceded a penalty on the retaken corner, which was then converted, giving the Revs a 2-1 lead and the three points. Harsh. July 2 - Luke Moore gets sent off in the 29th minute as Chicagos Chris Ritter jumped into the elbow of the TFC striker. There was no malice or intent in the aerial challenge. The referee merely reacted to the injury. Ten-man Toronto was superior to a very poor Fire team and played to a 1-1 draw. MLS later rescinded the red card. It was never a foul, nevermind a sending off. July 26 - In the 23rd minute, Aurelien Collin takes down Gilberto, who was in clear on a breakaway. No red card was shown to the Sporting Kansas City defender. Similar situation in the second half as Dominic Oduro was pulled down by last-man back Juliao. No sending off this occasion either. Toronto FC lost 2-1. A referees interpretation went against TFC. These, along with Gilbertos disallowed goal, are all game-changing decisions missed, or match-defining calls that went against Toronto FC. These dropped points as a result of referee error are the difference between sitting in a playoff spot and being on the outside looking in. 5) Poor Chivas - Toronto FC couldnt ask to play a better team Sunday. Chivas USA is in shambles and ripe for the picking. Never mind the fact the team may not even play in 2015 with the franchises future up in the air, the Goats are last place in the Western Conference and are a league worst in goals, assists and virtually every attacking category. Chivas has only scored 23 goals on the season, 14 by Erick Torres who is suspended for the trip to Toronto. If Toronto FC cannot pick up three points against Chivas, it begs the question who can they beat? With a game in hand and the Eastern Conference incredibly tight, chalk Sunday up to a must-win home game for the Reds. The season depends on it. Gareth Wheeler can be reached at:@WheelerTSNgareth.wheeler@bellmedia.ca Stitched China Jerseys . His Chicago Blackhawks teammates werent shocked when he found it. Nike China Jerseys .com) - Winnipeg Jets defenseman Dustin Byfuglien, Detroit Red Wings forward Tomas Tatar and New York Islanders right wing Kyle Okposo were named the NHLs players of the week on Monday.BALTIMORE -- Ubaldo Jimenezs miserable season worsened Friday when the Baltimore Orioles right-hander was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a sprained right ankle. Jimenez twisted his ankle in a parking lot at his apartment complex on Wednesday. "We were looking at it today and its pretty puffy, taped up," Orioles manager Buck Showalter said Friday. "We were hoping it would resolve somewhat today. Did not." The move is retroactive to July 6, the day after Jimenez made his last start. Jimenez, 30, was scheduled to pitch against the New York Yankees on Saturday. He will be replaced by either Chris Tillman or Kevin Gausman. Very little has gone right this season for Jimenez after he signed a $50 million, four-year deal during the off-season. Hes 3-8 with a 4.52 ERA overall and 1-4 with a 5.79 ERA at home. Jimenez appeared to be back on track after he gave up an unearned run in eight innings aggainst Texas on June 30.dddddddddddd But he didnt last long in his last start, walking six against Boston before being yanked after 3 2-3 innings. The ankle sprain is not a first for Jimenez. "He had it in 2012," Showalter said. "The only reason I asked him that is I wanted to know how quickly it healed. Anybody whos rolled their ankle, they know once you do it once, it kind of falls on a similar pattern. And he did it pitching. They shut him down the last two or three starts in 2012." By being placed on the DL on Friday, Jimenez gets the benefit of being inactive at the same time the Orioles are on break for the All-Star game. "If it wasnt for the All-Star break, we might wait a couple days," Showalter said. "But its also the same ankle as 2012, and with ankles, Ive learned that you kind of take a look at the history with them. Its a lot weaker every time you put it in peril." ' ' '

The Calgary Flames will look to pounce on a Washington Capitals team fresh off their first regulation loss of the season on Saturday night at the Scotiabank Saddledome. The Flames play the third contest of a five-game homestand and are 4-1-1 in their last six. They lost in overtime to Tampa Bay on Tuesday before blanking the Carolina Hurricanes 5-0 on Thursday. Jonas Hiller recorded his first shutout with Calgary and the 22nd of his career after making 16 saves, while defenseman Dennis Wideman scored his fourth goal of the season. All four have come in his past five games. Sean Monahan scored twice, while Matt Stajan and Lance Bouma also tallied. To score that many goals is great, Calgary head coach Bob Hartley said. I challenged the players before the game to win the three periods. They did it, and they did it in a great fashion. Despite Hillers shutout, Hartley will continue his goaltender rotation and give Karri Ramo the start tonight. Ramo is 1-3-2 with a 3.11 GAA and .906 save percentage in his career versus the Capitals. The Caps are 8-3-0 with a tie in their last 12 versus the Flames, but lost 5-2 in their most recent trip to Calgary. The Capitals had won two in a row and put together a 3-0-2 record ahead of a 3-2 loss to the Edmonton Oilers on Wednesday. Washington got goals from defenseman Mike Green and John Carlson, while Nicklas Backstrom had an assist to record his 500th career point. Braden Holtby made 17 saves in defeat. We played good, we just didnt execute, Capitals center Marcus Johansson said. Washington also is set to visit Vancouver on Sunday, so it is unknown if Holtby or backup Justin Peters will get the start tonight. Holtby has allowed six goals on 25 shots in two prior meetings with the Flames for a 12.34 goals against average and .760 save percentage, while Peters took a post-regulation setback in his only previous meeting with the Flames. Nicolas Batum Jersey . -- Phil Mickelson came to the St.We all have some opinions on the players that come up in daily trade rumours as the NHL trade deadline approaches. This player is a sniper, that ones over-the-hill; this one can still dominate the game, that one is riding the coattails of superior linemates. Then, the deals will start coming and well have to see how those players fit in their new locations. Before the trade flurry beings, though, what do some of the advanced stats say about the players considered in play leading up to the NHL trade deadline? For some, there will be no surprises -- they are who we thought they were! -- but, for others, maybe there are some reasons to have second thoughts. After some digging on www.behindthenet.ca, www.extraskater.com and stats.hockeyanalysis.com, heres a fancy stats look at some of the more notable trade candidates: Thomas Vanek, LW, N.Y. Islanders - There arent any grand surprises in Vaneks profile. Hes a top-line scoring winger, so he tends to face high quality competition (ie. other teams best defencemen), but those matchups have tended to get the better of Vanek in terms of possession stats, leaving him with a negative relative Corsi even though the ice should be tilted in his favour due to starting 59.7% of his shifts in the offensive zone. Of course, the line of Vanek, John Tavares and Kyle Okposo is skilled enough that they can be sub-50% in possession terms and still score more goals and, in Vaneks case, hes on for 40 goals for and 26 against during 5-on-5 play this season. Ryan Callahan, RW, N.Y. Rangers - While the Rangers captain has seen his ice-time reduced under new head coach Alain Vigneault, he still has okay possession stats while facing quality opposition. What is somewhat surprising about Callahan is that hes starting a disproportionate percentage (61.3%) of his shifts in the offensive zone. Considering his reduced power play role, those offensive zone starts are likely due to his spot on Brad Richards wing. Andrew MacDonald, D, N.Y. Islanders - For years, MacDonald has been a favourite on the underrated, or at least underpaid, lists because hes playing big minutes while making $550,000 per season. Now that hes approaching unrestricted free agency, and his stats come under more scrutiny, its clear that MacDonald is getting destroyed in puck possession terms and when one compares his with-or-without-you stats, its plain to see that MacDonald is being asked to do too much for the Islanders. The hope for an acquiring team would be that MacDonald could fit maybe as a No. 4 or No. 5 on a contender and, of course, his contract would be easy to accomodate for teams that are close to the cap. Steve Ott, C, Buffalo - Playing for the Sabres has forced Ott to play more than he should, because Buffalo doesnt have enough quality options, so he gets chewed up in terms of puck possession, but its not out of the realm of possibility that, in a third-line role on a contender, Ott would have a better chance to succeed. Marian Gaborik, RW, Columbus - Theres not much of a sample to work with, considering Gaborik has been injured for much of the season, but in the 18 games that he has played, Gaborik hasnt been particularly effective though he has started an abnormal percentage (47.9%) of his shifts in the defensive zone after three straight seasons with more than 60% offensive zone starts. To be fair, any team that is trying to acquire Gaborik (or any player, really) is going to be looking at more than what hes done this season, so subpar possesion numbers this year cant be considered the whole picture of his contribution. Like Vanek, for instance, Gaborik tends to have a higher on-ice shooting percentage than most, so his goal results tend to be better than the shot data indicates. Sam Gagner, C, Edmonton - This has been a season to forget for Gagner, starting with the broken jaw he suffered in the preseason, thanks to Zack Kassian. Gagner has generally been getting thumped when it comes to puck possession and, while he has plenty of work to do in his own right in the defensive zone, Gagner has been relatively unlucky, compared to previous years, in terms of on-ice save percentage (.891). If a team thinks that they can get quality production out of Gagner for the years ahead, his production this year ought to at least lower the asking price. Matt Moulson, LW, Buffalo - In what was completely expected when his first trade occurred early in the season, Moulson is heading towards his second deal of the year. Its tough sledding in Buffalo so Moulston has been getting beaten up in raw possession stats, yet still positive in relative terms, though being better than the average Sabres skater this season is a decidedly low bar. On a better team, with better linemates and more offensive zone starts, there is still a decent opportunity for Moulson to be a finisher on a contenders scoring line. Mike Cammalleri, LW, Calgary - Injuries have been a standard part of Cammalleris resume, so thats part of the package, but when he has played this year, he has played tough minutes and been relatively effective. Hes undermined by a horrible on-ice save percentage (.867), but the underlying possession stats are pretty favourable for Cammalleri. In a better environment, with better linemates, he should be a productive addition. Ryan Miller, G, Buffalo - While goaltending has its share of mysteries, given our current measurement, its pretty easy to see that Miller has been enjoying a strong season, with a .923 save percentage that is the second-best of his career but, looking over a longer time period, there are some trends to note. Over the past five seasons, his 5-on-5 save percentage is .927, which is good, ranking 11th among goaltenders with at least 2000 5-on-5 minutes played in that span. Where Miller has distinguished himself, somewhat, is in terms of shorthanded play, posting an .897 save percentage in 4-on-5 situations, which is second-best among goalies with at least 500 4-on-5 minutes played. No matter where Miller goes, it will be a better situation in terms of his opportunity to win and, really, his opportunity to be rewarded for strong individual play. David Legwand, C, Nashville - It comes as no secret, after nearly 1000 games, that Legwand plays against tough opponents and, generally, holds his own in the possession game. Like others in Nashville, hes been a victim of a relatively low on-ice save percentage, but that doesnt diminish the fact that Legwand can easily slide into a second or third-line centre role for many teams. Jaromir Jagr, RW, New Jersey - Sure, the ice is tilted in aan offensive direction for Jagr, who naturally starts more of his shifts in the offensive zone, but he remains a dominant puck possession player, as he has been forever.ddddddddddddHe says he wants to stay in New Jersey, but Jagr has been an NHL nomad, playing in Philadelphia, Dallas, Boston and New Jersey since returning from his stint in the KHL. Marek Zidlicky, D, New Jersey - While his name isnt being liberally thrown out like some others, Zidlicky is an aging pending unrestricted free agent who can man the point on the power play. Trouble is, he hasnt been very effective as a possession player even while starting 58.2% of his shifts in the offensive zone. Hes pretty much a specialist, who has 12 of his 29 points on the power play. Tom Gilbert, D, Florida - After he was bought out of his contract by the Minnesota Wild, Gilbert was an inexpensive pick-up for the Panthers, signing a one-year, $900,000 deal. Turns out to have been a bargain as Gilbert is having a very strong season playing alongside Brian Campbell. Naturally, some of his success is due to playing with Campbell, but Gilbert has handled tough minutes and, thoughout his career, has consistently been a solid performer though, admittedly, on mostly bad teams. On a thin defence market, he could help, though the Panthers might want to see about keeping him around a bit longer. Ales Hemsky, RW, Edmonton - Hemskys offensive production is a far cry from his point-per-game days, yet hes delivering solid possession numbers while facing high-quality opposition and starting 43.2% of his shifts in the offensive zone. On a good team, in an offensive role, its easy enough to see that performance translating into Hemsky making a more significant scoring contribution. Nick Schultz, D, Edmonton - The totality of Nick Schultzs NHL existence has involved him playing tough defensive matchups, with lots of defensive zone starts. At his best, he played that shutdown role. Where Schultz is now, however, is getting crushed in terms of puck possession and while he still starts more in the D-zone (he plays for the Oilers, remember), its not nearly enough to justify the shooting tilt when hes on the ice. Some team will hope that Schultz will fit in a defensive role with more structure than surrounds him in Edmonton, but there is definitely risk involved in that projection when the trend has been going downhill for some time. Brad Boyes, RW, Florida - Another of the Panthers bargain free agents from the offseason, Boyes has still managed to put up decent possession numbers. Not outstanding, but good enough to think that he could offer a bit of an offensive boost for a team seeking a top-nine forward. Ray Whitney, LW, Dallas - Though hes 41-years-old, Whitney is coming off a 2013 season in which he tallied 29 points in 32 games, so he was expected to fill an offensive role for the Stars this year. It hasnt really happened for him as hes played a reduced role and is among the glut of indistinguishable supporting forwards in Dallas. Whitneys puck possession numbers have dipped dramatically from the past couple seasons, but hes also been a little unlucky at the offensive end (with a 7.34% on-ice shooting percentage). A team that chooses to acquire Whitney, would do so on the basis that he could add some juice to the power play, a pretty standard expectation for a player who has 409 career points with the man advantage. Tuomo Ruutu, LW, Carolina - After an injury-marred 2013 season, Ruutu has stayed relatively healthy this year, but has some bad numbers to show for it. He has mediocre possession stats, despite starting 63.6% of his shifts in the offensive zone (the first question: why?!?!), but Ruutu has also been seriously unlucky in terms of percentages at both ends of the rink. Its one thing to pick up Ruutu, expecting the percentages to fall in line with career norms, but his performance to this point likely makes for a very low asking price in trade talks. Chris Stewart, RW, St. Louis - The Blues leading scorer last season, Stewart is averaging under 15 minutes per game for the first time since his rookie season and that decreased ice time is justified. Hes getting destroyed in terms of puck possession while not facing tough competition and starting 60.1% of his shifts in offensive zone, failing despite many situational advantages in his favour. Stewart is a big-bodied forward who can score, which might attract some interest, but his underlying numbers -- if anyones looking at them -- dont help the sales pitch. Lee Stempniak, RW, Calgary - A generally unheralded veteran winger, Stempniak has to take on tough minutes for the Flames, facing quality competition and starting more shifts in the defensive zone. Even so, Stempniaks relative possession numbers are strong, which is a reflection of his teams struggles, but hes also been relatively unlucky offensively, with a 6.33 on-ice shooting percentage, the lowest rate of his career. These are the kind of numbers that might suggest Stempniak is due for some bounces if he fits into a top-nine role with a contending team. Ryan Kesler, C, Vancouver - A late addition to the list of players under consideration for trade, Kesler (who may have a broken hand/finger at the moment) has been healthy this year. He still faces the toughest opposition and still wins possession battles, but not nearly like he did during his peak years from 2009 through 2012. In any case, teams that are looking for a two-way centre that can handle tough matchups defensively and score will naturally be drawn to Kesler and will likely have to pay a hefty price to pry him out of Vancouver. Martin St. Louis, RW, Tampa Bay - There was apparently some behind-the-scenes drama when St. Louis was left off the initial roster for the Canadian Olympic team. If the Lightning are inclined to acquiesce to that wish, teams will be looking at a forward who has never been great in terms of possession. Hes been okay, factoring in more offensive zone starts, but St. Louis has consistently had a high on-ice shooting percentage and has maintained it this year, even with Steven Stamkos out since November 11. The gist of it is that St. Louis will still be productive offensively, so long as hes left in that role, though its fair to wonder whether his best interests will be served by playing with someone other than Stamkos (who is targeting a March 6 return to the lineup). Uniondale, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - The New York Islanders scored a pair of goals in a 12-second span late in the third period to lift them to a 3-1 win over the Tampa Bay Lightning on Saturday night. John Tavares whistled a wrister from the slot past Andrei Vasilevskiy with 3:09 remaining to tie the game at 1-1. Travis Hamonic then put a wrister on net from the right point, which was re-directed by Anders Lee into the top left corner to put the Islanders in front. Nikolay Kulemin added an empty-net goal for New York, which outshot Tampa Bay 48-21 and improved to 12-2-1 in its last 15 home matchups against the Lightning. Jaroslav Halak made 20 saves for the Islanders, who have won four straight games on the heels of a three-game losing streak. Vasilevskiy stopped 45 shots for Tampa Bay, which has dropped six of its last eight contests. Brett Connolly netted the lone goal for the Lightning in defeat. The Islanders had a 29-9 disparity in shots taken over the first two periods, but the game was scoreless heading into the third until Tampa Bay opened the scoring midway through the frame. Tyler Johnson drove down the left wing, stopped and sent a sharp-angle pass to the front of the net, which was poked home by Connolly at the 9:16 mark. MAINZ, Germany -- Germany thrashed Armenia 6-1 in the sides last friendly match before the World Cup but influential midfielder Marco Reus participation in the tournament was left hanging in the balance on Friday. Reus was helped off the pitch before the break after twisting his left ankle while challenging Artur Yedigaryan for the ball. Reus immediately dropped to the grass and appeared in considerable pain. Team doctor Hans-Wilhelm Mueller-Wohlfahrt shook his head as he assisted the Borussia Dortmund player off the pitch. Reus was taken to the hospital to determine the full extent of the injury. "Hes getting checked out now and we have to wait for the diagnosis," Germany coach Joachim Loew said. "I saw it at halftime and you could see it was swollen. I hope its nothing to do with the ligaments. We hope, of course, that hes not out (of the World Cup)." Lukas Podolski, who came on for Reus, put on a man-of-the-match performance by setting up three goals and scoring another. "When he plays like this hes hard to stop," Loew said. Podolski whipped in a cross for Andre Schuerrle to beat Armenia keeper Roman Berezovsky at the near post in the 52nd. Henrikh Mkhitaryan equalized with a penalty in the 69th, when he sent Dortmund teammmate Roman Weidenfeller the wrong way.dddddddddddd Another Dortmund player, Kevin Grosskreutz, conceded the spot kick a minute after coming on as a substitute. Podolski responded with a goal of his own in the 69th after a good assist from Arsenal teammate Mesut Ozil and Benedikt Hoewedes made it 3-1 at the second attempt a minute after that. Podolski then crossed for Miroslav Klose to head his record 69th international goal in the 77th. The veteran striker had shared Germanys goal-scoring record with Gerd Mueller. Podolski set up Mario Goetze for the fifth goal in the 82nd, before Klose laid the ball back for Goetze to claim his second in the 89th. The game, however, was overshadowed by Reus injury. There was better news from Loews perspective on Philipp Lahm and Bastian Schweinsteiger, who returned after recovering from an ankle and knee injury respectively. Lahm played the first half in midfield alongside Sami Khedira, who made way with half an hour remaining for Schweinsteiger. Ozil, who hit the post, answered some of his recent critics with an encouraging performance. "We were fresher after the days off but now we need training in Brazil to get used to the climate," Loew said. The German squad leaves for Brazil on Saturday. ' ' '

PHILADELPHIA -- Dave Bolland helped the Chicago Blackhawks win the Stanley Cup and then had to watch the championship banner raising ceremony on TV. He would love to experience the same celebration in Toronto. Bolland scored twice and Phil Kessel added a goal to lead the Toronto Maple Leafs to 3-1 win over the Philadelphia Flyers on Wednesday night. The Maple Leafs, off to a 2-0 start, spoiled Philadelphias season opener one night after ruining Montreals. Jonathan Bernier stopped 31 shots in his Maple Leafs debut. Toronto acquired Bolland and Bernier in the off-season to bolster the clubs bid to get out of the first round and make a run in the Eastern Conference playoffs. Bolland scored the go-ahead goal from the slot early in the third period. It was his first goal since the Game 6 clincher for the Blackhawks in the Stanley Cup finals. "Its all gone," Bolland said. "This is a new chapter for me. I want to hopefully do it in Toronto. The chapter in Chicago is over." He sealed this win with a power-play goal with 22.5 seconds left. "You always wait for that first goal to come," Bolland said. "Its nice that both of them came tonight." The big game helped Bolland try to forget about the party he missed Tuesday night at the United Center. "I saw the highlights, you had to watch it," he said. Kessel turned 26 on Wednesday with plenty of reasons to celebrate. He signed a whopping $64 million, eight-year extension on Tuesday that will keep him off the free-agent market after the season. A 20-goal scorer last season, Kessel knocked in a rebound late in the second for the tying goal. Kessel helped make up for Torontos lone second-period power play. The Maple Leafs came away empty because Flyers defenceman Nicklas Grossmann blocked three straight shots in 2 minutes to keep the game scoreless. The Flyers wasted a fantastic chance to go ahead after Paul Ranger slashed Wayne Simmonds on a breakaway, setting up a penalty shot with 3.1 seconds left in the second period. Simmonds was easily stopped on his attempt to put the puck through Berniers legs. Back on the bench, Simmonds slammed the boards in frustration, unable to capitalize against his former Los Angeles teammate. "I just read him a little bit," Bernier said. "I tried to take away the angles. I came out and saw his stick with the blade going down. I got lucky with the save." Like Kessel, Bernier also is part of Torontos long-term future. He signed a $5.8 million, two-year contract soon after he was acquired from Los Angeles. He was 29-20-6, with a 2.36 goals-against average and .912 save percentage as Jonathan Quicks backup with the Kings. He kept Toronto in the game after the Flyers controlled the first period. Toronto went without a shot for a 12-minute stretch. "We needed a goaltender to keep us in the game, and he did that," Maple Leafs coach Randy Carlyle said. "Were fortunate to have him." The Flyers took a 1-0 lead when Schenn pounded in Vinny Lecavaliers feed with 6.9 seconds left. Mark Streit also had an assist on the play, an early impact for two of Philadelphias biggest off-season acquisitions. The overhaul of an underachieving team that missed the playoffs for the first time since 2007 was in full force: Lecavalier, a former Tampa Bay captain, and Streit, a former Islanders captain, were signed, along with goalie Ray Emery. "Offensively thats the best weve looked in a while," coach Peter Laviolette said. Steve Mason won the opening night start over Emery. Mason, acquired in a late-season trade with Columbus, was given the start largely on the basis of a strong finish to 2013. Mason and Emery will likely share the job unless one gets hot and takes over. "Its a huge honour to get the opening night start," Mason said. "Ray could have been there just as easily as I could, so it was a great honour to have it. Unfortunately we didnt get the win." Carmelo Anthony scored 36 points, J.R. Smith tied a franchise-record with nine 3-pointers and the Knicks held off a furious rally to beat the Sacramento Kings 107-99 Wednesday night and move a game closer to the final playoff seed. "We needed all of them, Ill tell you that," Knicks coach Mike Woodson said, shaking his head in relief. A night after a lacklustre 127-96 loss at the Los Angeles Lakers, the Knicks avoided a monumental collapse to another of the leagues cellar-dwellers. New York led by 24 in the third quarter before Sacramento surged back, and the Knicks needed a scintillating shooting performance from its leading men to snap a two-game skid. Smith scored 29 points on 10-for-19 shooting, including 9 for 12 from long distance. Anthony shot 12 for 21 from the floor and 5 of 8 from beyond the arc. "That was big time," Anthony said. New York (30-42) is two games behind Atlanta for the final playoff spot in the weak Eastern Conference after the Hawks (31-39) lost 107-83 to Minnesota. DeMarcus Cousins had 32 points, 15 rebounds and eight assists to carry the Kings, who played without injured point guard Isaiah Thomas (bruised right quadriceps). Ray McCallum made his first start in Thomas place alongside fellow rookie Ben McLemore, and the two shook off a slow start to bring the Kings back. McCallum had 10 points, six rebounds and five assists. McLemore scored 16. But New York outshot Sacramento 54.8 per cent to 47.8 per cent and finished 15 for 26 from 3-point range. "The 3-point line killed us," Kings coach Michael Malone said. "You have J.R. Smith and Carmelo Anthony, thats going to be tough to beat." About the only thing that kept the Kings close most of the night-- besides Cousins -- was free throws. Sacramento shot 27 for 35 on free throws, while New York finished 12 for 13. Sacramento scored the first eight points of the fourth quarter and finished with a flurry of highlights to give the Knicks a scare. Cousins three-point play overr Amare Stoudemire trimmed New Yorks lead to 96-94 with 4:30 remaining, sending most of the announced crowd of 15,494 roaring to their feet.dddddddddddd Smith answered with a 3-pointer, and Tyson Chandler came back with a dunk to put the Knicks up 101-94. After McCallum made two free throws, Anthonys 15-footer with 1:36 to play sent a cluster of fans to the exits, and the rest soon followed. "We know what they wanted to do," Cousins said, "but we have to go out there and execute." The Knicks already assured themselves of a losing season with an embarrassing loss in Los Angeles on Tuesday night with new team president Phil Jackson in attendance. The former Lakers coach, a longtime nemesis of Kings fans, was nowhere to be found in Sacramento on this night. Not that the Knicks shouldve needed Jacksons presence to get by a rebuilding Kings team that is far from the franchise he often led the Lakers past in the playoffs during Sacramentos glory years. New York took control in the second quarter with 20-6 run highlighted by defence and dunks. Chandler capped the spurt with an alley-oop from Smith that put the Knicks up 54-38. Anthony added two 3-pointers to extend New Yorks lead to 74-50 with 6:17 remaining in the third quarter, slapping his headband with his fingers as he backpedaled on defence each time. Smith squashed Sacramentos final rally by making all three of his 3-point attempts in the fourth, moving the Knicks playoffs hopes back in the right direction. "Ive been to (the playoffs) the last four or five years now, and to be home watching it on TV is not going to be any fun," Woodson said. "So Im desperately pushing these guys to try and get em in there, because then a new season starts and anything is possible." The Catalan side opened 2015 with a disappointing 1-0 defeat in the league to Real Sociedad, which was followed by a 5-0 thrashing of Elche in the Copa del Rey in midweek. Yet that result did little to ease the pressure on Enrique, who is believed to be the main reason for stories surfacing about the potential departure of star forward Lionel Messi. It has been reported that Messi is unhappy with the current coaching situation, and unless Enrique is able to produce results on a consistent basis, he could find himself in danger of losing his job. TORONTO – Watching Brett Cecil pitch, its difficult to imagine that just a little more than a year ago, a group of reporters approached his locker stall in Dunedin to ask if hed cracked the 2013 lineup. Whats happened since - an All-Star appearance and a 2.82 ERA in 60 appearances last season and a perfect run over his first 10 outings (eight-and-two-thirds innings) this season - is special. There was Cecil on Tuesday, called upon by manager John Gibbons in the seventh inning of a 3-3 game with the Blue Jays in a jam, bailing out his team once again. The Orioles had runners on second and third with one out. Cecil walked slugging left-hander Chris Davis before striking out Adam Jones and Steve Clevenger. The clutch performance paved the way to a six-run eighth and Toronto beat the Orioles 9-3, winning the opening game of a fourth-consecutive series. “Just trying to make good pitches,” said Cecil. Cecil is a native of Dunkirk, Maryland. He went to the University of Maryland and served as the Terrapins closer in his sophomore year of 2006, saving 13 games to set a school record. His success as a reliever in college prepared him for the role hes tasked with now. “I knew right off the bat once I moved to the ‘pen that it wouldnt take long,” said Cecil. “Ive done it before and it worked out in the past and it sure has now.” GIBBONS APPROACH TO BULLPEN Entering Tuesdays action, the Blue Jays had received 103 2/3 innings in 19 games from their starting pitchers, an average of between five-and-a-third and five and two-thirds innings per outing. Toronto will need more from its starting five and the sooner the better. After this coming Mondays off day, the Blue Jays will begin a stretch in which they have one day off between April 29 and June 1. Manager John Gibbons tries to balance the short-term and long-term consequences of each decision. “I mean, youve got to think long-term, but youre trying to win that game, too,” said Gibbons. “If theyre fresh you go to them … You want (starters) to go deeper into the game, but if they start to lose it or start to tire out because of the pitches or whatever it is, you look at the lineup or what youre facing, youre trying to hold that game in check.” Youll start to see more of J.A. Happ, Esmil Rogers and Todd Redmond in the fifth and sixth innings in games if the starters dont get deep. The specialists at the back-end of the bullpen cant be the daily option. “If you wear them down too much, those guys arent going to be probably effective later, anyway,” said Gibbons. “Thats why youre going to need some other guys to step up and get some big outs in the sixth, maybe the seventh.” In the last two seasons, 13 of the 20 playoff teams have had staffs that averaged six or more innings per start. The worst, Cleveland, averaged just better than five-and-two-thirds innings per start last season. The Blue Jays, in the early going of 2014, are averaging about an out fewer per start than the Indians of last year. If that doesnt seem like much, prorate that stat over 162 games. Youre asking your bullpen to get 162 more outs over the course of the season. INJURED JANSSEN IN TORONTO Casey Janssen rejoined his teammates in Toronto on Tuesday after his minor-league rehab assignment was halted. The strain in his abdominal/back area, near his oblique, hasnt improved to the point where Janssen is comfortable continuing to appear in games. He threw an inning for Single-A Dunedin a week ago Tuesday, allowing a hit and striking out one. “To be clear, it wasnt a setback,” said Janssen. “We realized it wasnt going to heal doing what I was doing. So instead of putting our foot on the gas, we had to take it off a bit and listen to my body a little bit more.” Janssen played catch before Tuesdays game with the Orioles. The plan is to throw a bullpen session in Toronto later this week and, if hes feeling better, Janssen will go back out on a rehab assignment. “Thats the frustrating part. Im not in pain,” said Janssen. “I mean theres a little bit of annoyance in there and the thing was, as long as you werent in pain, to keep progressing. So I didnt have symptoms of pain, but realizing that the swelling wasnt going to go away and Im in more jeopardy of maybe reinjuring, either that or somewhere else because Im compensating, we added it all up and it didnt make sense.” The Blue Jays bullpen, usually reliable, had two hiccups toward the end of the just-completed road trip through Baltimore, Minnesota and Cleveland. A six-run, eight-walk eighth inning turned a 5-3 lead into a 9-5 deficit in Thursday nights loss to the Twins. On Sunday, three walks and a bases-clearing double in the sixth turned a 4-2 lead into a 5-4 deficit in a loss to the Indians. Janssen is confident his mates will get back on track. “Those guys are still one of the best in the game,” said Janssen. “I dont care what a game or two happened or didnt happen. Basically, these guys are really, really good. Its a strength of our team and it will be a strength of our team.” ROGERS REBUILDING CONFIDENCE Esmil Rogers pitched two scoreless innings to mop up Saturdays shutout win in Cleveland. After a tough start, he needed it. “I know that I can do that more than one time,” said Rogers. “Anytime they need me, Im going to be there. If Im healthy, Im going to be great.” Rogers has allowed a staff-high four home runs on the season in just 10 1/3 innings pitched. Watching balls fly out of the park, he admits, rattled his confidence. “Sometimes you get a little frustrated about that because people can see you and you want to do the best you can,” said Rogers. “I think about it and I dont want it to happen again, but this is baseball. You dont know when youre going to be good and when youre going to be bad.” Air Max 270 React Electro Green .com) - The Detroit Pistons and Boston Celtics both entered Wednesday nights game riding lengthy losing streaks. Romo did all the competitive work in the first two practices with pads Saturday and Sunday. The team was off Monday, and Romo was part of the morning walkthrough session earlier Tuesday. "Theres an old adage in football, a day off can be really valuable, two days off can be life changing," Garrett said. "So when you get in this kind of a situation, we had yesterday off, got some good work this morning in the walkthrough, some mental work of some of the different situations were working on." Romo injured his back against Washington last season but stayed in and threw a game-winning touchdown pass. He had surgery two days before the Cowboys lost to Philadelphia with Kyle Orton at quarterback in a season-ending loss that kept Dallas out of the playoffs. After being held out of competitive situations throughout the off-season, Romo was declared ready for camp.dddddddddddd But the Cowboys have been cautious by limiting his throws. Tuesdays break is the most significant cutback so far. "The biggest thing we talked to Tony about and really all of our players about, is honest feedback," Garrett said. "We recognize that youre a tough player. I saw what you did against the Redskins last year. You just got to tell us how youre doing, how its going and make sure we handle it the right way each and every day." Garrett said the feedback from Romo has been "good." "But we just have to monitor him," the coach said. "Weve just got to make sure we dont overdo the reps ... just be mindful of where he is each and every day." The surgery in December was the second procedure on Romos back in eight months. He had a cyst removed before the start of off-season practices last year and didnt do any significant work until training camp. This year, Romo tried to sneak into a competitive drill during minicamp in June, and Garrett kicked him out of the huddle. "Its the same approach we take here," Garrett said. "Lets keep taking incremental steps. Part of getting ready for that is practicing in training camp, part of getting ready for that is playing in preseason games. We feel like were very much on schedule in those two regards." ' ' '
