For the sixth consecutive season the Toronto Maple Leafs and Montreal Canadiens will battle on the opening night of the NHL season. The entire schedule has yet to be announced, but the league released the dates for all 30 home openers Saturday and confirmed games will kick off the 2014-15 season on Wednesday, October 8. The Leafs open the season on Oct. 8 at the Air Canada Centre against the Canadiens, while across the country the Calgary Flames host the Vancouver Canucks at the Scotiabank Saddledome. A day later, the Flames head to Edmonton for the Oilers home opener at Rexall Place on Oct. 9. The Oilers will then head to Vancouver for the Canucks home opener on Oct. 11. The Canadiens open their home schedule in the second week of the season against the Boston Bruins on Oct. 16. The Ottawa Senators also play host to the Colorado Avalanche on the same night. Wrapping up home openers for Canadian teams, the Winnipeg Jets welcome the Nashville Predators to the MTS Centre on Oct. 17.
