ACCRA Cheap Janoris Jenkins Jersey , June 7 (Xinhua) -- The Ghana government said Wednesday it had deleted the names of 16,839 non-existent employees from the payroll of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA).


Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the YEA Justice Frimpong said the exercise had saved the government some 20 million cedis or 4.8 million U.S. dollars.


He explained that the deletion of the "ghost workers" followed four months of audit the agency carried out after it detected some discrepancies on its beneficiary payroll.


He enumerated a number of fraudulent acts being perpetrated by people to draw unmerited allowances from the public purse.


He noted that some cases involved people with no appointment letters or with fake appointment letters.


Frimpong noted that some district directors in the 216 local government areas across the country connived with some of the beneficiaries to dupe the nation of millions of dollars.


He said the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) had already launched full-scale investigations into the matter and would soon begin to prosecute those who would be found culpable.


The YEA in April suspended the payment of allowances to beneficiaries to allow for a full audit of its staff.


The Ghanaian government also suspended the salaries of some 26,589 public sector workers in an attempt to rid its payroll of "ghost names".


Ghanaian President Nana Akufo-Addo in an address to workers at this year's May Day celebration announced that the country had saved 443 million cedis following the suspension of salary payment to 26 Cheap Aldrick Rosas Jersey ,589 workers.
